Multilingual

The guest portal is fully four-lingual: German, French, Italian, and English. Every guest sees the portal in their language without any work on your side. Confirmation e-mails, invoices, confirmation PDFs, and QR-code notes go out in the preferred language too.

We can add a fifth language (e.g. Dutch) on request — useful for sites with a high NL share.

For a booking, the language is determined as follows (in order):

  1. Manually set language on the guest profile (e.g. a regular who always communicates in German)
  2. Browser language at online booking time (Accept-Language header)
  3. Country of home address (CH/DE/AT → German, FR/BE → French, IT → Italian, otherwise English)
  4. Site default language as a fallback

You can override the language on the guest profile at any time — the choice takes effect for the next communication and the next portal sign-in.

Default texts (welcome, arrival info, T&Cs, privacy notice) are pre-translated. Customise them under Settings → Guest portal → Texts — one field per language. Examples:

  • Welcome e-mail mentioning your on-site bakery
  • T&C aligned with your cancellation policy
  • Arrival text with directions

If you only maintain German and leave the others empty, CampOne falls back to the default text — no empty field reaches the guest.

Invoice lines — e.g. “Comfort pitch”, “Tourist tax”, “Electricity” — must be maintained in every language you sell in. Standard types are pre-translated; custom extras only need translation in the languages you actually sell in.

Under Settings → Translations you see per language:

  • fully translated fields (green)
  • partially translated fields (yellow — fallback active)
  • untranslated fields (red — fallback needed)

You can see at a glance where a language has gaps. If you don’t actively offer a language, disable it under Guest portal → Active languages — it then disappears from the picker.

Per pitch type, name and description are maintained in every supported language. Avoid 1:1 translation — example:

  • DE: “Komfortplatz mit Strom und befestigter Stellfläche”
  • FR: “Emplacement confort avec électricité et sol stabilisé”
  • IT: “Piazzola comfort con elettricità e fondo solido”
  • EN: “Comfort pitch with electricity and hardened ground”
  • Localise, don’t just translate. “Brötchenservice” doesn’t carry directly into French — “livraison de pain frais” works better.
  • Address regulars in their language. A Dutch family that’s been coming for ten years appreciates English mail — even if you don’t maintain Dutch content.
  • Have T&Cs reviewed. Legal translations of T&Cs are not trivial — get them reviewed once at first install.
